DRUGS AND PORPHYRIA

How to use the information ?

This website contains :

A list of drugs that are considered SAFE
A list of drugs which are considered UNSAFE
Guidance on common prescribing problems
A link to a searchable drug list

In most circumstances the SAFE and UNSAFE drug lists may be used to choose an appropriate drug.

If no suitable drug is found access the searchable list which indicates the relative risk for drugs not on either of the above lists, in relation to age, sex and disease activity of your patient.

The risk versus the benefit should be assessed and discussed with the patient
For help with this assessment you may wish to contact an expert centre
Patients should be encouraged to report adverse reactions (e.g. abdominal pain)
Patients may require biochemical monitoring in the early stages of treatment
Facilities should be available for prompt diagnosis and treatment of an acute attack

PLEASE HELP US TO IMPROVE THE DATA BY REPORTING YOUR CLINICAL EXPERIENCE OF SAFE OR UNSAFE USE OF A DRUG :
